Update 6 - DDoS attacks - December 2017
Update 6 - 9AM PST (5PM GMT) Dec. 22 - Hey all! While there is no silver bullet that will cure all impact of DDoS attacks, some changes made by the ISP over the last couple days have shown positive results. This doesn't mean all network issues are resolved permanently, just that things are looking better.
As an extra gift for your incredible patience during this frustrating time we're going to grant players who have logged in between 11 AM UTC on Nov. 14 and 11 AM UTC on Dec. 20 the following:
Update 5 - 8AM PST (4PM GMT) Dec. 18 - While we do get a couple hours free of DDoS attacks periodically, they have continued to pick up again consistently. The ISP has continued to adjust to mitigate the attacks, but as stated previously, it's not something that will provide 100% relief from all such attacks. Work will continue to minimize the impact.
Update 4 - 11:20 AM PST (7:20 PM GMT) Dec. 17 - Hey all. The attacks have persisted over the weekend with some periods of relative calm. The impacted ISPs have been working to further mitigate the attacks.
Update 3 - 9:30 AM PST (5:30 PM GMT) - The DDoS attacks have continued, with some periods (usually a couple hours at a time) where things are very quiet, followed by a steep increase. Our team is working with the ISP to further reduce the impact.
Update 2 - 8:45 AM PST (4:45 PM GMT) - We just had several hours without a new attack, but they have started up again. Our network team is monitoring things closely and we're making adjustments and working with the ISP to reduce the impact as much as possible.
Update 1 - 4PM PST (12AM GMT) - The DDoS attacks are still happening on very regular intervals. The active mitigation employed is what allows the game to be online at all rather than just being perpetually offline.
When players are disconnected you should be able to log back in within a couple minutes. The queue that pops up is very brief and is caused by the system that channels players into game servers. With the number of available servers there's no way to drop 100% of the games population into the world simultaneously, but it goes very fast.
Hey folks,
You've likely noticed another increase in lag and disconnects in our games, including Trove in the last 24 hours or so.
Unfortunately, this is the result of an increase of DDoS attacks that have been targeting a variety of companies, including Trion.
We can't provide specifics on the steps being taken to mitigate the current attacks as we don't want to provide info that could be used to do more harm. Our network team is working very hard to mitigate the attacks as much as possible but we can't provide a specific estimate for when they'll stop.
This is understandably frustrating for all of you and we absolutely share that frustration. With the holiday season rapidly approaching it's unlikely the attacks will stop soon but we're going to keep doing everything in our power to reduce the impact as much as possible.
We'll keep this thread updated regularly.
